GODDESS FEATURE INTERVIEW

How did you end up where you are now in your career , a vivid memory of where it all started for you:

I was working in Bloomingdales about 8 years ago and one particular co-worker always talked to me about my style and she happened to be an aspiring actress. She asked me to style a photoshoot for her and from that day I realized how much I enjoyed being on set, bringing peoples visions to life and making them feel good. I then found a styling internship on Craigslist which helped me build a portfolio to then start landing gigs on my own and here we are!

Tell us about an Influential woman in your life and why :

My mom has been my backbone through so many of my life experiences. Whatever I wanted to do, whether it was dance, play piano, styling or design she was always right there cheering me on. It’s so funny looking at old photos of my mom because I have adopted some of her style and now mixing it with my personal style. No matter what she wore boots and shades were part of the look. Same goes for me now and I love wearing boots all year around.

How did Denim bandit workshop come about ?

About 3 years ago I was bored and started playing with trimmings on denim and decided to do a workshop at Art Basel. I realized how imperative denim is to our day to day lives. Whether it’s dress down days at the office or the light jacket you grab to put over your spring dress. It’s versatile, durable and ages beautifully. Over the years I have collected denim from friends, family and even retrieved bags of denim from garbage bins. I love working with denim because there’s so many creative ways to make it uniquely yours. From repairing holes, painting, decorative trims to deconstructing pieces to make something new. I enjoy the challenge of having limited resources and seeing how they develop into something new.

What is next for you? Any new ventures ? Any upcoming releases for your brand? Anything you’d like to share with us?

I have a few editorial projects I Creative Directed dropping in a few weeks. Both of my brands Denim Bandit Workshop and SheMiché have drops between now and summer. I’ve been taking my time to be more intentional with my designs and can’t wait to share.

Most recent work :

I’m currently working with Trinidad James and I styled him for his latest video Tobago Ba$$. We also did an editorial that will be released this month with Viper Magazine.

How is working with Trinidad James , knowing he’s already so fly — he has always pushed the limit when it comes toFashion ... what approach do you take ? I feel like you love it because you are the same----

You can wear anything and make it look like $

Yes, James has eclectic taste and very open minded, he honestly doesn’t need a stylist. The opportunity came to me though and I just knew he would be fun to work with. He keeps a positive outlook, even when things don’t go exactly the way he envisioned. That to me is important in a client, having the ability to quickly adapt and move forward. We bounce ideas off of each other and it becomes more of a collaborative piece and while he’s well aware of what looks good on him he lets me have the final say. He gravitates towards color, patterns and things that are out of the box so I look forward to creating more striking visuals because we just getting started!

As you know we are born with innate powers, gifts .. what do you believe is your Goddess power?

Well my ruling planet is Venus, Goddess of Love. I love Love and the exchange of giving and receiving it. Not just in human form but my experiences with nature and music as well.

Current goals:

Can be short or long term or both !

Healing is my main focus, it’s a ongoing personal goal. Currently I’m carving out time to nurture aspects of my life that needs work. Each month I give myself three words to focus on, for March it’s Self-Love, Confidence, and Discipline.

What is your love language ?

Quality time.

Current perspective on life :

Life is what you make it, you are the main character in your story. Everyday you have a choice to steer in the direction you want it to go.

A message / advice to someone that looks up to you or being in the same shoes as you career wise ?

Don’t give up, if you feel overwhelmed or uninspired take a break. Never feel pressure to move on anyone’s time but your own. Enjoy your creative process and collaborate with like minded people.
